At the beginning of the novel Huck is living with the Widow Douglas and her sister Miss Watson. Both women mean well. They try to turn Huck into a "civilized" boy. They want him to go to church, school and mind his manners. Although they might see the inherent goodness in Huck, they don't consider his thirst for adventure and simplicity as good traits. They don't change Huck. In the end he still has his sense of adventure and internal value system.
