Practically it is difficult for Junior to attend Reardan. The school is about 20 miles away. There is no bus that goes there. Frequently his parents don't even have enough gas money to drive him there. Junior often walks hoping that someone picks him up along the way. Socially, Junior becomes a social pariah to many people on the reservation. They feel that he is trying to be "white" or better than them. Many people in Reardan don't accept Junior because he is Indian. This is a difficult thing for Junior to do but Junior is no ordinary boy!
