Junior's parents feel that Indians on the reserve are stuck: nobody moves forward. They feel relegated to the Indian “status-quo”. They accept that they never had anything and never will even hope to have anything. They feel that white people are born with hope and prospects. White people can use their wealth and status to create more hope.
