I believe Junior's opportunity to attend Rearden somewhat symbolizes the American Dream. Junior was torn when initially making his decision, but he realized that transferring would afford him the possibility of escaping the poverty of the reservation. The students at Rearden embodied Junior's hopes for the furture, as they too had hopes and dreams for their own.
