Chapter 13 - Gravitation - Problems - Discussion Questions - Page 424: Q13.10

Answer

It takes more fuel to go from the Earth to the moon than the other way around.

Work Step by Step

When one travels from the Earth to the moon, one is trying to escape the stronger clutches of Earth’s gravity, and falling into the gravitational well of the moon. This is more difficult than escaping the moon’s weaker gravitational field, and falling toward the more massive Earth. It takes more fuel to go from the Earth to the moon than the other way around.
