We know that when the current reaches a given value in an RL circuit, it stops changing and the back emf in an inductor vanishes. Thus, the final current in the circuit is determined by the resistor and the emf of the battery and the inductor acts likes an ideal wire with zero resistance when the current reaches a given value.
