Chapter 29 - Molecules and Solids - Problems - Page 855: 33

Answer

See answers.

Work Step by Step

See diagram. As discussed on page 851, this resembles Figure 29-41, but for a pnp transistor, the changes are: 1. $\epsilon_B$ and $\epsilon_C$ have their polarity reversed as compared to the npn transistor circuit.. 2. $I_B$ and $I_C$ flow in the opposite direction as compared to the npn transistor circuit. 3. The collector and the base voltages are negative in normal operation. 4. Holes move from the emitter to the collector. 5. The emitter arrow points toward the base of the pnp transistor.
