See diagram. The right hand rule tells us that the magnetic field circles the wire in a counterclockwise fashion. To find the direction of each field, first draw a radius line from the wire to the field point. At the field point, draw an arrow perpendicular to the radius you just drew. oriented so that the directed arrow would be a portion of a counterclockwise circle (i.e., the arrow you drew is tangent to an imaginary circle, centered on the wire). The magnetic field strength is represented by the length of the arrow. The farther the field point is from the wire, the weaker the field and the shorter the arrow.
