Chapter 19 - DC Circuits - Questions - Page 550: 22

Answer

No real voltmeter has infinite resistance.

Work Step by Step

When a voltmeter is connected across a resistor in parallel, some of the current that formerly went through the resistor will pass through the voltmeter instead. With less current passing through the resistor, there will be a smaller voltage drop across it, according to Ohm’s Law. The voltage will have been reduced from its value when the voltmeter wasn’t present.
