Chapter 25 - Electric Charges and Forces - Conceptual Questions - Page 744: 8

Answer

Neutral.

Work Step by Step

The final state of the three objects is neutral. The two metal spheres and the rod will be brought to a neutral state. The metal rod is a perfect conductor, it will allow the negative charge from the negatively charged sphere to travel toward the positively charged sphere. And since the charge in both spheres is equal in magnitude, so an equal amount of electrons to the positive charges in the other ball will go through the rod toward the positively charged sphere. The rod was initially neutral and after the process is done it will be neutral again.
