For an object at rest on a table, the normal force is greatest when the table surface is horizontal, and decreases as the table is tilted more and more. As a side note, if the book is to remain at rest, there must be a frictional force acting parallel to the table surface. As the table approaches the vertical, the magnitude of the normal force approaches zero. The normal force is discussed on page 32.
