This is a hands-on demonstration. Try this with your friends, and be prepared to explain the physics of the demonstration to them. This activity (shown in Figure 16.7 on page 306 in the previous chapter) shows that steam is present, though invisible, as part of the vapor streaming out of the spout. If you place a candle flame in the condensed steam, it extinguishes from decreased access to oxygen, and also, the burning wick is cooled as the condensed water droplets absorb heat from the flame.
