Chapter 10 - Structure and Synthesis of Alcohols - Problems - Page 428: Problem 10-1 d

Answer

trans-2-methylcyclohexanol

Work Step by Step

1. Find the longest carbon chain with -OH and number it giving -OH the least number. 2. Locate the methyl. 3. Write the name by dropping e from the name of the longest chain and end with an -ol. 5. It's trans because the Hydrogens are on different sides of the bond. Since methyl is at the 2th carbon after numbering the chain, it will be 2-methyl.
