Chapter 2 - Atoms, Molecules, and Ions - Questions and Problems - Page 82: 2.46

Answer

Number of protons in nitrogen is 7 N-14 number of neutrons 7 N-15, number of neutrons 8 Number of electrons in the neutral atoms is 7

Work Step by Step

Atomic number (Z) is the number of protons in the nucleus of an atom. Therefore the number of protons in nitrogen is 7, the same with nitrogen atomic number ( you get this info. from the period table of elements). Number of neutrons is found by subtracting number of protons ( atomic number) from the mass number . for , N-14 number of neutrons = 14 - 7 = 7 for N-15, number of neutrons = 15-7 =8 Number of electrons in the neutral atoms is 7 as it is the same with the number of protons in nucleus ( remember atom is neutral).
