Chapter 16 - Acid-Base Equilibria - Exercises - Page 715: 16.2c

Answer

The equilibrium will lie to the left.

Work Step by Step

Since HX is a weak acid, not much of the acid will dissociate. Therefore not many ions of H+ will be available to combine with the Y- to form HY. As a result, at a given time more reactant will be present in the reaction vessel making the reaction left sided.
