Chapter 5 - Sections 5.1-5.10 - Exercises - Review Questions: 3

Answer

When you exhale, the volume of the lungs is reduced. The pressure inside the lungs is then greater than the atmospheric pressure, causing air to move outside the lungs until the pressure is equalized.

Work Step by Step

Pressure is related to volume in this way. Reduced volume results in increased pressure P=volume of air/volume of container.
