Answer

J.J. Thomson discovered electrons by means of the cathode ray tube.

Work Step by Step

By applying a voltage between two electrodes he found that these particles traveled in straight lines from the anode to the cathode, making them negatively charged. He also determine that the beam of electrons produced were independent of the composition of the electrodes. He was also able to measure the charge-to-mass ratio of these electrons.
