Chapter 10 - Liquids and Solids - Questions - Page 499: 13

Answer

Intermolecular forces are attractive forces between two or more molecules that hold the molecules together in both solid and liquid phase. Hydrogen bonding is a type of intermolecular force that occurs between oxygen and hydrogen, nitrogen and hydrogen, and flourine and hydrogen. The dotted lines in the diagram represent the hydrogen bonding between the oxygen and the hydrogen in the H2O molecule.
