Chapter 1 - Chemical Foundations - Exercises - Page 37: 77

Answer

Answer: Third Dimension size = 2.769 cm.

Work Step by Step

Given density = 22.57 $\frac{g}{cm^{3}}$ Mass = 1.0 kg = 1000 grams Since Density = $\frac{Mass}{Volume}$ then Volume = $\frac{Mass}{density}$ Thus volume = $\frac{1000}{22.57}$ = $44.3066 cm^{3}$ Since the osmium block is a rectangle, its volume = product of its three dimensions. So, 4 $\times$ 4 $\times$ (Third dimension) = 44.3066 Thus third dimension = $\frac{44.3066}{16}$ = 2.769 cm
