Chapter 20 - Cell Communities: Tissues, Stem Cells, and Cancer - Questions - Page 700: Question 20-4

Answer

The cells attach differently because they have different functions.

Work Step by Step

A fibroblast must exert traction on the extracellular matrix (like cell crawling) and as such has a fair amount of focal contact sites. The acitin cytoskeleton drives the movements of the fibroblasts against the extracellular matrix. In contrast, focal contact sites in epethelium are less common because there is no need for movement.
