Chapter 18 - The Cell-Division Cycle - Questions - Page 606: Question 18-2

Answer

In this group of cells the longest phase is G1. At this point the cell has entered the first stage of interphase. During the G1 phase, the cell simply grows larger.

Work Step by Step

The graph demonstrates the number of cells as compared to the amount of DNA detected in the cells by the florescent light. The largest part of the graph is the first portion before the A hump, the A hump demonstrated the S phase. This was followed by the smaller B hump. Neither of these humps are as large as the portion immediately before the S phase or A hump, during which time no DNA was detected.
