Chapter 1 - Cells: The Fundamental Units of Life - Questions - Page 22: Question 1-5

Answer

The evolution of an internal membrane system would essentially mean that the eukaryotic cell doesn't have to share it's food.

Work Step by Step

The internal membrane support system allows the eukayotic cell to take in the food particles and feed on them once they are in the membrane of that specific cell. This is more efficient than how a bacterial cell must break down the food particles by exporting enzymes but it cannot grab the food particles, so they must be shared with all the surrounding cells.
