Chapter 30 - Test Your Understanding - Level 2 - Application/Analysis - Page 647: 7

Answer

Plants may have been better adapted than animals to survive the meteorite impact because of their ability to remain dormant as spores or seeds and to disperse to favorable habitat in those forms. Also, as photosynthetic autotrophs, they do not always depend on the presence of other life forms to survive.

Work Step by Step

Think about the dormancy features discussed for plants in this and the last chapter as well as their unique metabolic abilities (compared to plants— see the chapter on protists where plastids are discussed).
