Chapter 51 - Population Ecology - Review - Page 1091: 10

Answer

The population graph of the developed country is organized and is same at all ages, whereas there is a presence of flare at the base of the population graph of the developing countries.

Work Step by Step

AIDS is a sexually transmitted disease which results in the decrease of the number of sexually active individuals in a population. The continuous spread of disease becomes an epidemic, which might reduce the number of young and adult individuals. This would result in the top-heavy distribution being dominated by the elderly and older adults. The graph which representing the population of developed country, the same number of people in all the age groups is observed because of the increased number of infants born each year and the increased survivorship. This is due to development and proper regulation of advanced medical technologies in the developed countries. In the graph representing the population of developing country, a flare is observed at the base. One of the most probable reasons is the absence of advanced medical technologies in the developing countries. This further results in the increased fecundity and survivorship among children and infants.
