Ectoderm, endoderm and mesoderm are the three germinal layers that develop in early embryonic life. The ectoderm forms nails, hairs, cornea, lens of the eye, epidermis, brain, spinal cord, retina and peripheral nervous system. The endoderm gives rise to liver, pancreas, stomach, lungs, thyroid, intestine and urinary bladder. The mesoderm forms dermis, connective tissue, bone, muscle, cartilage, genitourinary system and circulatory system.
