There is buccal in which the tongue and soft palate. The tongue compacts the food turning it into a bolus which takes the bols to the oropharynx through the help of the tongue then the soft palate rises and closes off the superior nasopharynx. the pharyngeal-esophageal phase consists of the pharynx and esophagus. There are impulses that are being received from the swalling center to muscles which then contracts to help send food to the esophagus by peristalsis. The arrival of the food causes the gastroesophageal sphincter to open.
