These symptoms are indicative of a development of cataracts in the eyes. Specks and flashes are due to floaters and distortion and reflection of light rays by the cloudy lens. The veil is diagnostic of a beclouding of of the lens which is diagnosed as cataracts. The condition is serious, but not as serious as it used to be. The treatment is to surgically remove the cloudy lens and replace them with plastic or glass lenses. This operation is fairly routine and inexpensive enough that almost everyone in the USA and Western Europe who has health insurance (including Medicare) can afford it. Where the operation is not available, cataracts cause impaired vision and eventually result in blindness and serious disability. So it can be a very serious disease , especially among the poor and in underdeveloped countries.

This person is developing cataracts of the lens, The lens function to focus light on the retina. When the lens become clouded , vision is impaired. Floaters and flashes are indicative of lens dysfunction. The veil is diagnostic of clouded lens ; this is cataracts. Cataracts cause impaired vision and serious disability. If not treated they lead eventually to blindness. Today in the West cataract operations are routine and affordable. The clouded lens are removed and replaced with plastic or glass lens. This operation restores vision:in many cases the recovery is as good as 20/20 . In other cases glasses must be worn to restore complete normal vision.
