Chapter 14 - The Autonomic Nervous System - Review Questions - Page 543: 17

Answer

The term ganglionic is more accurate because in this case the body of the neuron is in the sympathetic chain ganglion. The axon or nerve fiber is post ganglionic, but it is not the whole neuronn or the most important part of it physiologically

Work Step by Step

Autonomic pre-gaanglionic neurons have their cell bodies in the CNS. The axon of the pre-ganglionic neuron projects out to and enters the peripheral ganglion where it synapses with the "ganglionic neuron" ( not the post -ganglionic neuron). The axon of the "ganglionic neuron) leaves the ganglion as a post-ganglionic "axon" in search of its effector target.
