Work Step by Step

The caudate nucleus is one of the paired basal nuclei located in the white matter of the cerebral hemispheres. It is comma -shaped and arches over the diencephalon. Together, the caudate and the putamen comprise the striatum. The basal nuclei, the subthalamic nuclei, and the substantia nigra of the mid brain function cooperatively in the control of certain activities. The last structure, which is highly pigmented, is sometimes considered a component of the basal nuclei complex.
