16a. Lateralization of the cerebral hemispheres means that each side of the cerebrum is specialized for certain mental or emotional functions. This means that the left half can do some things better than the right half, and vice versa. For example, the left side is specialized for tasks dealing with logic , math, science and language. On the other hand, the the right hemisphere is specialized for dealing with activities that require visual spatial skills, creative talent, memory or musical ability.

The median longitudinal fissure divides the cerebrum into two halves, the left and right cerebral hemispheres. It has been shown experimentally that the right hemisphere is specialized to deal with activities related utilize, visual spatial skills, creativity, intuition , memory and musical ability. The left hemispheres is specialized to deal with activities that deal with logic, math, science or language skills. This division of mental tasks is often called the lateralization of the cerebral hemispheres. However the division of labor is not complete. The hemispheres are connected by fiber tracts and they do communicate.
