Answer

c. Microglia , a type of glial cell of the central nervous system.

Work Step by Step

Glial cells are support cells of the nervous system. They are more numerous than the neurons. They include oligodendrocytes, ependymal cells, astrocytes and microglia. Ordinarly glial cells function to insulate and support neurons. Under normal circumstances microlgia support nerve cells. However, if disease or inflammation develop,s microglia develop immune responsiveness and the ability to repair tissue damage. In the former role microglia act as resident phagocytes of the central nervous system.
