Chapter 9 - Section 9.1 - Joints and Their Classification - Before You Go On - Page 279: 6

Answer

Bony joints are immovable joints that occur when two bones fuse together (ossify). An example is the bony joint ossification of the right and left mandible and frontal bones into a single mandible and frontal bone. Another example is the bony joint formed, in adolescence, from the ossification between the epiphyses and diaphyses of child bones (a cartilaginous joint in childhood)

Work Step by Step

9.1 - joints and classification. Understanding that a bony joint is the immovable joint that occurs when two bones fuse together and can come as a result of other joints (e.g. a cartilaginous joint forming a bony joint in later years).
