In holocrine secretion, entire secreto cells disintegrate and form part of the secretion of the gland. The cells lost in the secretion have to be continuously replaced by mitosis of basal cells. Sebaceous glands of the scalp (skin of head) and eyelid glands (meibomian glands) secrete in this way.
