Chapter 4 - Section 4.1 - DNA and RNA-The Nucleic Acids - Before You Go On - Page 117: 1

Answer

The three components of a nucleotide are a sugar (deoxyribose), a phosphate group, and a single or double ringed nitrogenous base. The nitrogenous base varies from one nucleotide to another in DNA.

Work Step by Step

DNA is often described as a twisted ladder with the sides (backbone) composed of the sugar and phosphate groups. The rungs of the ladder are the nitrogenous bases. These nitrogenous bases (C, T, A, G in DNA) are variable and their order in the ladder ultimately determines what protein gets created.
