Chapter 3 - Section 3.3 - Figure 3.23 - Transcytosis - Page 98: 1

Answer

Fg. 3.23 Transcytosis is a combination of pinocytosis and exocytosis; it is not an independent process.

Work Step by Step

In pinocytosis (cell drinking) a cell membrane on one side of a structure takes in droplets of extracellular fluid (ECF) containing molecules of substances that are of metabolic importance. The vesicles with the fluid are then transported across the cell cytoplasm and released by exocytosis on the opposite side of the endocytotic membrane, Insulin is transferred across capillary endothelium in this manner. Albumin is also transported by transcytosis from blood to tissue fluid around muscles.
