Chapter 3 - Section 3.1 - Concepts of Cellular Structure - Before You Go On - Page 81: 4

Answer

The cytoplasm is the liquid between the nucleus and the cell membrane that provides structure to the cell and that contains most of the organelles. Cytosol is a part of the cytoplasm that doesn't contain organelles, but rather helps keep them in place.

Work Step by Step

The cytoplasm is a jelly-like fluid that provides a proper environment for the cell and its organelles to function properly. Among other functions, the cytoplasm contains enzymes that are responsible for breaking down waste, and speeding metabolic activity. Most of these organelles are suspended in the cytosol, which is a fluid mostly made up of water that plays a role in cell regulation and cell signaling.
