Chapter 19 - Section 19.1 - Study Guide - Assess Your Learning Outcomes - Page 740: 1

Answer

The two subdivisions of the cardiovascular system are the pulmonary and the circulatory circuit. The pulmonary circuit is responsible for taking blood from the heart to the lungs and then back to the heart. The systemic circuit is responsible for taking blood from the heart to the body's tissues and then returning the blood to the heart again.

Work Step by Step

The pulmonary circuit takes deoxygenated blood to the lungs for gas exchange and then returns the oxygenated blood back to the heart. They systemic circuit takes oxygenated blood from the heart to all the various tissues of the body where gas exchange occurs and then returns the deoxygenated blood back to the heart.
