Chapter 12 - Section 12.2 - Properties of Neurons - Apply What You Know - Page 438: 2

Answer

Nerve cells secrete neurotransmitters. Muscle cells are contractible.

Work Step by Step

Nerve cells can secrete neurotransmitters while muscle cells don't secrete anything. Muscle cells on the other have conductibility. Muscle cells are able to be significantly shortened when stimulated, allowing them to pull on bones and create movement. Nerve cells don't have this function. Muscle cells are also extensible and elastic, two other traits that nerve cells lack.
