Answer

Dorsi lexio is the bending of a body part towards the back or the dorsum. It is usually used in bending of the toes/foot towards the shin (tibia). Several muscle have roles in dorsiflexion of the foot/toes: These include, fibularis tertius (peroneus); extensor digitorum longus,; extensor hallucis longus, and the tibialis anterior.

Work Step by Step

During the action of walking, the fibularis tertius dorsiflexes or everts the toes ; this keeps the toes free of the ground in the backward swing of the legs. The contribution of the extensor digitorum longus dorsiflexion of the foot, extension of the toes, and tightening of the plantar aponeurosis. In addition, the extensor hallucis longus dorsiflexes the foot, and extends the great toe; furthermore, the tibialis anterior dorsiflexes and inverts the foot and stabilizes its medial longitudinal arch--it helps retain balance and resists falling over when moving.
