Answer

Maimonides was a medical doctor and a Jewish rabbi. He fled to Egypt because of persecution in Europe. While he served as the physician to the sultan of Egypt he wrote 10 medical books and numerous treatises on infectious diseases. This was a very great contribution to medical knowledge. Avicenna was an Arab physician who may be considered the father of evidenced-based medicine. He combined the findings of Galen and Aristotle, but he demanded evidence for their theories. He wrote an authoritative medical textbook that was in currency for over 500 years. Vesalius is remembered for his contributions to gross anatomy and pathology and the examination of cadavers by dissection. He composed and published the first of Anatomy textbook. Harvey was a physiologists; he is remembered mainly for his studies and discoveries regarding blood circulation. Although he initially encountered opposition and derision, he conducted many experiments and established unequivocally that blood left the heart, went around the body. and came back to the heart continuously in a circuit--the circulation of the blood.

Work Step by Step

Hooke is remembered for his contribution to microscopy. He invented the compound microscope which made it possible possible to observe cells. Van Leeunhoek is also remembered for his contributions to microscopy. His microscope had better lens than Hooke's, and he was able to see not only dead unmoving cells but microbes and sperms and other living cells. Based on observations enabled by the inventions of Hooke and Van Leeunhoek , Schleiden and Schwann were able to develop the theory that all living things are composed of cells--the Cell theory-- and that life only occurs in cells.
