Chapter 1 - Section 1.1 - Angles, Degrees, and Special Triangles - 1.1 Problem Set - Page 14: 78

Answer

(b) 24 $\sqrt 2 $ feet

Work Step by Step

Escalator , ground and vertical make a right triangle together. As escalator makes an angle of 45° with the ground, hence the triangle formed is 45°–45°–90° with length of escalator forming its longest side i.e. hypotenuse. In a 45°–45°–90° triangle, Hypotenuse = $\sqrt 2 \times $ shorter side or Hypotenuse = $\sqrt 2 \times $ 24 Therefore length of escalator = 24 $\sqrt 2 $ feet
