Chapter 18 - Inference in Practice - Check Your Skills - Page 434: 18.21

Answer

Inference from a voluntary response sample can't be trusted.

Work Step by Step

A voluntary response sample is a sample for which the subjects can decide if they want to be in the sample or not. When the sample is collected by an online poll, the sample is a voluntary response sample. We can then not trust inference of this sample, because subjects with the strongest opinions are most often in the voluntary response sample.
