Chapter 5 - Section 5.1 - The Unit Circle - 5.1 Exercises - Page 408: 58

Answer

Terminal Point: $(-0.5, -0.9)$

Work Step by Step

Using the unit circle graphed in the figure, draw a horizontal line from the point of the arc where the length is "4.2", to the y-axis. Write the coordinate of the closest mark to the point where the line reaches the axis. In this case, the closest mark is "-0.9", which is the y-coordinate. Repeat the same process for a vertical line and the x-axis, and you will get the x-coordinate. In this case, it is "-0.5". Hint: You can check the results by using a calculator to find the value of sin 4.2 and cos 4.2 (respectively)(in Radians).
