Chapter 9 - Measurement - 9.2 Measuring Area and Volume - Exercise Set 9.2 - Page 595: 80

Answer

The volume of an object or thing is measured in cubic units and Linear or square units are not used to measure the volume.

Work Step by Step

Volume is defined as space which is being been occupied by a particular thing or object. In other words, it refers to the quantity of an object or thing which has three sides i.e. the object is three dimensional and also the object is surrounded by a closed surface. While measuring the volume of the object, one unit is taken for each dimension of the object and therefore cubic units are used because the object is three dimensional. The units of measurement can be cubic centimeters, cubic meters, cubic millimeters etc. Linear or square units are not used to measure the volume because linear units are used for the measurement of single dimension and square units are used to measure the area of two-dimensional object.
