Chapter 4 - Decimals - 4.2 Rounding Decimal Numbers - 4.2 Exercises - Page 280: 42

Answer

One could round $\$0.499$ to $\$0.50$ (the nearest cent).

Work Step by Step

We saw in exercise #41 that rounding $\$0.499$ to the nearest dollar results in $\$0$ dollars. It would be more helpful to round $\$0.499$ to $\$0.50$. That would mean not rounding to the nearest dollar, but rather to the nearest cent. One could do this for small values (e.g. less than 1 dollar).
