Chapter 10 - Section 10.5 - Equations of Lines - Exercises - Page 487: 5

Answer

We draw a line that goes through the point $(0,-3)$ and the point $(1,-1)$.

Work Step by Step

Using the method in example three, we first put the equation in slope-intercept form. This line already is in that form. We then graph the y-intercept, which in this case is $(0,-3)$. Next, knowing that the slope is equal to rise over run (the slope is 2 in this case), we go up 2 and over 1 to the point $(1,-1)$. We then draw a line through both of the points that we graphed.
