Chapter 1 - Linear Functions - 1.3 Fundamentals of Graphing and Slope - 1.3 Exercises - Page 53: 88

Answer

The graph is shown below.

Work Step by Step

The given linear equation is $\Rightarrow y=\frac{1}{8}x-\frac{5}{8}$ For the vertical intercept plug $x=0$. $\Rightarrow y=\frac{1}{8}(0)-\frac{5}{8}$ Simplify. $\Rightarrow y=-\frac{5}{8}=-0.63$ The vertical intercept is $A=(0,-0.63)$ Slope is $m=\frac{1}{8}$, so the rise is $1$ when the run is $8$. Starting at $(0,-0.63)$ and going up $1$ and over $8$, we get to $B=(8,0.37)$. Repeat the same to get the next point $C=(16,1.37)$. By using theses three points draw a line.
