Chapter 4 - Section 4.4 - Solving Systems of Equations by Matrices - Exercise Set - Page 239: 2

Answer

(5,2)

Work Step by Step

We create a matrix: $$ \begin{pmatrix}2&-1\\ 1&3\end{pmatrix} = \begin{pmatrix}8\\ 11\end{pmatrix} $$ Applying Cramer's Rule: $$ D_x=35 \\ D_y=14 \\ D=7 $$ Thus: $$ x=\frac{D_x}{D}=\frac{35}{7} =5 $$ And: $$y=\frac{D_y}{D}=\frac{14}{7}=2$$
