Paul needs a friend. His sadistic brother Erik has intentionally blinded Paul. Paul also has to live with Erik's constant physical and verbal attacks. Paul's parents are turning a blind eye to Paul's suffering or, at the very least, are oblivious to it. School is a harsh place for a boy like Paul. Paul is different and kids who are different have a hard time of it. Joey's life is not easy as well. He has his own tragedies to contend with. Both boys are drawn to each other and offer valued friendship.
