what is the first indication that's something disingenuous is going on with regard to Erik and Arthur

Erik is explaining to Mrs. Fisher that Mike was hit by lightening. This is an awful story yet Arthur is fighting back a smile and covering his face with his hand while Erik relates how Mike's brother too Mike's shoes off on the field.
